Brogborough is an RYA Training Centre. We run two types of course for children and four for adults. The childrens' schemes are RYA OnBoard and RYA Team15, and try to have a Saturday Morning Club feel. The adult courses are Taster, Group Taster and RYA 'Start Windsurfing' and 'Fastfwd' courses.
Children
In both schemes we work through a syllabus (RYA Youth stage 1 to stage 4) in which stage 2 brings you up to the same level as the adult Start course. If you buy a Youth Windsurfing Scheme Syllabus and Log book at the shop (£5.50) you can get each step ticked off as you progress and insert your certificates.
The cost for joining each scheme will be £3 per session as a member with own kit, £5 as a member with no kit, or £8 per session as a non-member. Wetsuit, buoyancy aid and wet boots will be provided.
OnBoard
We run OnBoard (from May 15th) on Saturday mornings at 9.00 am, finishing at 10.00 am. OnBoard is for complete beginners. Once you can sail up-wind to a buoy and sail back to where you started, we move you up to Team15 to improve your skills. So if you are a complete beginner, this is for you.
Team15
We run Team15 (from May 15th) on Saturday mornings at 10.00 am, finishing at 11.00am. If you can sail up and down wind and around a buoy, then this is for you. You will have fun, improve your skills and, if you wish, learn basic freestyle and racing rules.
Adults
Taster courses - when you want to try the sport for the first time, this is a good way to discover whether you like it. Taster courses are run from around May to October weather permitting.
The price includes the hire of wet suit, buoyancy aid and board and rig, You will be given a short period on a land simulator to learn the basics before you try it on the water.
Cost is £40 for two hours, bookable weekdays, evenings or weekends.
Group Taster Courses - for when you want to bring some friends and do it in a group. The price depends on the size of the group. Please email me for a price.
RYA 'Start Windsurfing' courses cost £140. You need to do these courses if you really want to take windsurfing up seriously.
There are two four hour lessons (two separate days), when you will be taught all basic aspects of the sport. From then on you will just need to practise, by either purchasing a board or hiring kit, until you are ready to make a decision about the board and rig you really need (see hire prices)
We run these RYA courses seven days a week, and the price includes wet suit, buoyancy aid, board and rig.
Fastfwd
RYA 'Fastfwd' Intermediate courses are designed to follow on from the 'Start Windsurfing' course. They teach you core skills that you can easily and progressively transfer from non-planing to planing conditions without learning new skills. Their introduction, based on observations and developments by Simon Bornhoft and Jim Collis, was a revolution in teaching windsurfing. Never before was it as easy as this!
Fastfwd (Non planing)
New techniques such as the beachstart and harness work will get you ready for the excitement of blasting control. Beachstarting and gybing are taught either as a separate clinic or within the course, tailored to an individual’s needs and the teaching environment. Most people achieve a basic non-planing carve gybe.
Fastfwd (planing)
Harness and footstrap techniques combined with our Fastfwd coaching improve your stance and get the board planing, giving you the exhilaration of speed and improved theory knowledge. Expect to polish your non-planing carve gybe and work towards the full-blown planing carve gybe.
Cost is £140
