OnBoard and Team15 Brogadoons

The Brogborough RYA OnBoard and Team15 team is known as the 'Brogadoons'. OnBoard
is for complete beginners who move to Team15 as they improve. Both groups will be on the
water together and will join together for some activities, so that the transition to Team15 is seamless.

See us mentioned in the RYA Newsletter: Read May 2010 - Read May 2011

The first activity is the 'RYA OnBoard' scheme, which is designed to encourage newcomers.

We work through the RYA Youth Windsurfing Scheme, and aim to take everyone as far as
they want to go. More info is at RUOB. Last year we had over 20 attendees who seemed to
think time on the water was party time.

Please come along if you are aged between 9 and 15, and bring a responsible adult
(usually Mum or Dad) who must be present. To join, you do not have to be a swimmer. You
only have to be comfortable falling into the water with a buoyancy aid. Use the Contact page
to let us know you are coming because we have to make sure we have enough instructors
for you. It runs from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. Arrive 15 minutes early to change into your kit.

The second activity is 'RYA Team15', which is designed help those who want to improve their
skills and enjoy windsurfing in our great club atmosphere for the longer term. They may progress
to blasting, freestyle or racing - perhaps even to the Olympic squad. They probably won't make
2012 though! Sessions start on Saturday morning at 10.00 am on the water and last until 11.30.

The only requirement is to be able to sail around a buoy and come back to the shore. If you can't do
this yet you'll soon learn in the OnBoard team. You will then be able to move up when you are
ready. Like the OnBoard team, you will need to have a responsible adult tagging along. Use the
Contact page
to let us know you are interested.

Time

The sessions are run side by side on Saturday mornings, so that everyone can be in a group of
similar ability. Please arrive 15 minutes early to get changed. The 2011 season lasts from
May 7th to September 24th, with a two week break in early August - 6th and 13th..

Costs

Members

Own equipment or bronze hire - £3 per session.

No equipment - £6 per session.

Non Members

£9 per session pay-as-you-go or £150 for the season, paid in advance (For the sessions from June 4th this
is about £7 per session.)

Forms

All OnBoard and Team15 members must sign the standard Club indemnity and the RYA 'Use of
Images' form. The latter provides a written record of consent or otherwise to the Club and the RYA
using photos with your child in them. If using your own equipment, a copy of your third party
insurance cover (of at least £2M) must be provided.

Our Instructors and Safety Procedures

We work to the highest standards. All of our instructors are RYA qualified, and CRB checked, and
the club is an RYA Training centre.

Our AALA licence details are R1886/L9220.

If you run a school, scout, guide, or other child based activity then we can meet your needs.

Helpers and Volunteers

If you are interested in joining in, as the parent of an intrepid junior Brogadoon, or as an instructor
or helper, then please use the Contact page to let us know. You will be very welcome, even if you
just turn up.

Our limitations are that we need one safety boat for every 12 participants on the water, and one instructor
for every 6. There are other tasks that we need help with as well, such as maintaining
achievement and membership records, and making egg and bacon butties. So, we would really
appreciate it if all interested adults contacted us, because we need at least 8 to 10
instructors/safety boat drivers/helping parents to keep it all flowing smoothly through all
contingencies. If your kids join OnBoard or Team15, you may get a big boost from helping them
develop. We won't even mind if you learn to windsurf as well!

We look forward to hearing from you, or even better, meeting you on the water.
