Don’t take it too seriously – those taking it too seriously will be barbecued!

The aim is to encourage fun and competitive racing in a friendly and supportive environment. The objective is to encourage club membership / participation and improve our windsurfing skills through friendly competition.
Racing takes place on Thursday evenings from the beginning of May through to the middle of September, allowing for up to 20 evenings of racing. The first Thursday of each month is always some kind of novelty race (e.g. pursuit or master blaster) and is explained by the race officer during the race briefing.
Given enough wind for slalom (14mph average or gusts of 17mph), a two-buoy figure of eight course is sailed. If the wind direction allows us to sail the full length of the lake (NW or SE) then a short master blaster series may be held (e.g. 3 races with 10 minutes between each start). A master blaster consists of a beach start, gybe (around a buoy) and then back to the shore to finish.
In lighter winds we run “dinghy style” course racing on Starboard Phantom Race 320 and HiFly Primo boards. There are always a minimum of 3 marks (e.g. a box or triangle) with an upwind start and finish whenever possible. There will typically be 3 laps but the race is sometimes shortened if the wind drops.
We have produced a short guide to Thursday Night Racing but you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.
