| The Future of Brogborough Lake |
|
As you may or may not have heard there are several plans afoot that concern Brogborough Lake. The committee and myself have had a couple of meetings with the proposed canal authorities who intend to join the grand union canal in Milton Keynes with the river Ouse in Bedford and also with H & O properties who own the lake and intend to build an Eco friendly development around the lake. The result of these meetings are as follows: 1. The CanalOne of the proposals is to bring the canal into the lake on the left hand side as you look at it. Coming in just below the farmhouse on the left and hugging the shore and leaving via the bottom corner. The area will be boomed off and frankly shouldn’t really affect us, as that corner usually has a big wind shadow anyway. The time scale looks considerably far off, I can’t see anything happening before 2015 at the earliest and with all such projects they often get shelved into immortality anyway. 2. The Eco Town - This if and when it happens (and that is a very big if) will affect us eventually. The proposed town will be all along our launching foreshore and down the right and left hand side, the good news is they will not be building high rise flats at the end of the lake and blocking off the South westerly wind, so our predominant wind will still be there. Once again the time scale is way off, certainly nothing before 2015 and in all probability way after that, so at least for the present we have nothing to worry about. They have assured us that they want the windsurfing to carry on, so looking on the bright side we might even get a new clubhouse with electricity. So to summarise as far as we can tell the club will be undisturbed for the next seven years at least. Beyond that we will still be there but may be in a different format. Though frankly with the economic climate in chaos, I can’t see anything happening at all for a bit, if at all. Lastest update: O and H properties, the owners of the lake have pulled out of the Eco Town project. This is good news for us, and our future looks good. Tony
